Chapter 19

Jason greeted Sonny at the door. "This guy better be for real Jason," Sonny said. "Yes sir," Jason replied, figuring if he wasn't, he'd kill the guy himself for making fools out of all of them. Sonny approached the group of men, who cleared out of the way for him. The man seated in the center, tied up, had his head hanging down. Sonny stood before him, his arms folded. "You think I know you?" he challenged. Mike Corbin took a deep breath and prepared himself. He raised his head and looked right into the eyes of his son. "Yes Michael, I think you do."

Jason kept a close watch on Sonny's face, and didn't like what he was seeing there. Sonny could only choke out one word as he looked at his father..."you?" "Yes Michael," Mike said with a smile, "it's me." "Clear the room," Sonny said, still looking at Mike, but obviously speaking to Jason. "Everybody out!" Jason yelled, and the men quickly left. Jason remained, but hung back to give Sonny some privacy. "You look great Michael..." "Don't call me that!" Sonny yelled. "My name is Sonny, Sonny Corinthos! But you knew that, because you asked for me. Figured I'd come in here and save your worthless hide." "Sonny..." "Did you know you were borrowing money from my organization all along?" Sonny asked, suspicious of his father's motives. "You must have, that's why you asked for me. What do you want Mike? Money? Obviously, you need it. Mike Corbin, huh? Hiding from someone in another territory you shafted?" Mike shook his head, "no, that's not why I'm here. I wanted to see you again Michael, to make sure you're all right." Sonny shook his head, "you call me that one more time, and I'll finish you myself." He could feel everything inside him shutting down; he didn't want to feel the pain. "Jason!" Jason ran over. "Give him three months to pay up. If he doesn't, take care of him." "Sonny you don't mean that!" Mike cried. Sonny ignored him, and turned to leave. Jason went over to untie the man, still unsure of who he was and what was going on. Mike yelled, "but I'm your father!" Jason looked at Sonny in shock. Sonny slowly turned back, "my father walked out when I was five years old. I don't know who the hell you are."

Sonny drove the Jag home, barely aware of the traffic. It was a good thing he didn't have that far to drive. Just when things were going well, business was good, Brenda loved him, his damn father had to show up. "Damn him!" he yelled, hitting the steering wheel. Somehow, he made it home in one piece, and pulled into the garage. He went upstairs and immediately poured himself a drink. He was totally unaware that Jason had followed him, and walked into the penthouse right behind him. "Sonny." When he didn't respond, Jason tried again, "Sonny!" Sonny heard him the second time, and turned around. "What Jason?" "Are you all right?" Sonny shrugged, "whatever." Jason took a seat on the sofa. "What are you doing?" Sonny asked. "I'm just going to sit here, in case you need anything." "I don't need a babysitter Jason." "I'm not...I'm just hanging out." "Fine," Sonny snapped, "do what you want." Exhausted from the day's events, he headed upstairs to bed...totally forgetting that Brenda was waiting for him at the restaurant. Jason watched him go, then settled into the sofa. He wanted to make sure there wasn't a repeat performance of the other night, when Sonny smashed up the place. Jason didn't know why, but he could tell there was some real bad blood between Sonny and his father. And if the situation with Sorel got Sonny as upset as it did, this situation had the potential to cause serious damage; damage Jason was determined to prevent.

Back at Il Paradiso, Brenda looked at her watch again. They had closed up the restaurant 15 minutes ago, and still, there was no sign of Sonny. She started getting really nervous, and not knowing where he had gone when he left earlier, she feared the worst. Picking up the phone, she dialed the penthouse. When she heard Jason's voice at the other end, her heart almost stopped beating.
