Final Betrayal
A Sonny and Brenda Story
Chapter 3
That night, Carly was disappointed when Sonny rejected her amorous advances. "I'm just tired," he told her. "You're thinking about Brenda, aren't you?!" Carly yelled. Sonny stared at her, and replied as best he could without lying, "I'm thinking about Jason, and that means Brenda's involved. They are married you know." "Yeah, but that's just for appearances," Carly replied, "Jason really wants…" She stopped herself, but knew she had already said too much. Sonny narrowed his eyes; "Jason really wants who?" "Forget it Sonny, it's just my over-active imagination." Sonny reached out his hand and took her face in it. Forcing her to look him in the eyes, he asked again, "Jason really wants who?" Carly didn't know how to get herself out of this one, so she told him the truth, "Courtney." Sonny's heart clenched as he realized why Courtney was in court…it was for Jason. Sonny released her face and muttered, "damn it!" "Sonny, nothing's going on between them," Carly lied, "but I think they like each other. That's all." Sonny didn't respond, but got out of bed instead. "Where are you going?!" Carly cried. "Across the hall," Sonny answered in a deathly calm voice. He quickly pulled on a pair of silk pajama bottoms and a t-shirt, and left. Carly sat up in bed. She knew there was no way she could warn Jason in time, but she didn't know if she should go make sure the two men didn't kill each other. But then she thought about the window of opportunity she'd been given. She needed to find Sonny's offshore account numbers, and now was the perfect time to do it.
Sonny stormed over to Jason's penthouse, causing Johnny to jump out of his way. "Boss?" he inquired as Sonny rushed by him. Sonny didn't respond, and pounded on Jason's door. Jason had been sitting on the couch, thinking about Courtney. He knew they had to be careful, both because of the trial and Sonny. He hated deceiving Sonny, and knew all hell would break lose when Sonny found out. He planned to tell him, but hadn't quite found the right moment. "Jason! Open the damn door!" Sonny yelled. Jason stood and stared at the door with a lump in his throat. He knew that moment had arrived.
Brenda lay awake in bed;
Jax was sleeping soundly beside her. She kept picturing Ric Lansing's face in
her mind's eye, and it was driving her crazy that she couldn't remember how
she knew him. "Maybe you don't," she thought; "he certainly didn't
act like he knew you." Then, it hit her. She remembered one day in Alcazar's
villa in Venezuela, when she walked in on an argument between Luis and another
dark haired man. "This is how you repay my trust!" Luis screamed.
"Senor Alcazar, I swear to you, on my mother's soul, I did not steal from
you." Ric stood his ground, but inside he was terrified. He knew Alcazar
would kill him without blinking an eye. But he also knew he hadn't betrayed
the man. Luis studied Ric's face, and had doubts about his guilt. But someone
had taken money from one of his offshore accounts, and someone had to pay for
it. Luis called for his guards, and two men rushed into the room. "Take
Mr. Lansing here to visit our friend Warden Gomez." "No!!" Ric
yelled, as they dragged him from the room. Brenda quietly snuck back to her
room, not wanting Luis to know what she had just witnessed. "That's him!"
she now thought. Her heart started pounding. "If he worked for Luis, he
must be here to hurt Sonny!" She jumped out of bed and scrambled to find
her clothes.
