have their "dinner date" after her ONS with Ric.
Sonny could tell she was about to lay something big on him, and he braced himself. "I can see you really need to tell me something, so go ahead," he told her. And then he added, "if something is weighing on you that much, you probably should get it out." Reese nodded her head. "As I was saying, I was planning on leaving town, but then fate stepped in and my flight was delayed. I was at the Metro Court bar…" Sonny smiled, "pounding back the scotch no doubt. You can drink as much as me any day." Reese couldn't help but smile back. "Yeah, well I don't remember what I was drinking, but I do remember I drank a lot of it. And so did Ric." Sonny's smile faded and his heart dropped into his gut. He knew what was coming next, but wanted her to tell him without interruption. Reese read his expression and started to really panic. If his reaction to Ric's name was so marked, his reaction to what happened would be positively explosive. She summoned the strength to continue. "Ric and Alexis broke up, over the trial and Alexis' treatment of you I guess. He was as devastated as I was." She paused, and studied Sonny's eyes, which were growing blacker and blacker. "I got up to leave, and almost fell over. I had a lot to drink. So Ric offered to make sure I got back to my room OK." Sonny couldn't stay silent. He slammed his fist down on the nearest piece of furniture. "I bet," he muttered. Somehow, Reese kept talking. "It just happened Sonny…I swear it wasn't planned!" Sonny turned back to her. "Don't lie to me Reese. It's the one thing I cannot tolerate." "I'm not!" "Yes, you are. Don't tell me, 'it just happened,' or 'I couldn't help myself.' You wanted him, and he wanted you. Right? Right?!!" Sonny was yelling now, but Reese held her ground. "No I didn't want him!" "Did he drug you?" Sonny asked, thinking of what Ric had done to Carly. "Did he put a gun to your head?" "No!" "Then you were a willing participant, weren't you? And I want to know why!" "Because I wanted the pain to stop Sonny!" Reese yelled back. "I thought I had lost you forever to Carly, and it hurt so much…" Sonny softened a bit. "OK." Reese looked at him quizzically; "OK?" Sonny shrugged, "well, there's not much I can do about it now, except to say I hate that he touched you…that he had you…" "My body Sonny, not me." "Yeah, yeah. Well, I do understand why you were hurt…it took me a while to figure out that I was really over Carly. But I know that now." Reese smiled, "I'm glad." "But now, there's Ric…" Sonny mused. Reese shook her head, "he's just a friend Sonny…to both of us." Sonny shook his head, vehemently. "Oh no! He's no friend of mine. You don't know Ric like I do. He knew exactly what he was doing. I was a fool to think he'd changed…that I could trust him. I mean, yeah, he helped me out at the trial, but that was for Michael." He paused and then pointed a finger at Reese, "you stay the hell away from him." Reese got nervous again as she told him, "well, that might be kind of difficult Sonny." "Why?!" Sonny bellowed. "Um, because we might go into a law practice together," Reese reluctantly informed him. Sonny took a step back, and then laughed. "That's funny. Really, um, that's a good one…No way in hell!!!" "Sonny, it meant nothing to me. Doesn't me wanting to work with him prove that?" Sonny laughed again, "on what planet? No, to me it proves that you guys can't stay away from each other. So either you prove otherwise, or we're through!" Reese just stared at him, and Sonny added, "you think about that while I go take care of some business." Sonny started to walk out, and Reese knew exactly where he was going. Before she could protest, Sonny turned around and told her, "and if you call to warn him then I'll know exactly where your loyalties lie. Don't make that mistake." And then he was gone. Reese let out a long breath. "Well that could have gone worse I guess," she commented to herself. It did cross her mind to call and warn Ric, but then she thought better of it. She had no doubt Sonny meant every word he said to her, and she knew it would truly be the end of them if she warned Ric, or if she went into partnership with him. She was going to have to find another law partner, and she set her mind to doing just that. Sonny's men worked fast and located Ric Lansing for the boss. Not that they had a choice; Sonny was on a rampage and none of them wanted to get the brunt of his anger. Ever since the Sandoval killings, Sonny's entire organization had an enhanced respect for their boss. What he ordered happened without question. Ric was in Jake's bar, of all places, working on a business plan for the law partnership with Reese. Initially, he had told her it was a bad idea, but then he thought about it some more and really liked the sound of it. The truth was, Reese Marshall was a gorgeous woman, and he liked being around her. And even though he knew she was with Sonny, he could still spend time with her if they worked together. And he was confident Reese would never tell Sonny about their night together, and that Sonny would continue to think highly of him because of the trial. Coleman looked up from behind the bar to see Sonny Corinthos and two of his men walk in. He could tell immediately there was going to be trouble. Sonny looked at him, and motioned with his head for Coleman to get lost. He reluctantly headed towards the back room…he really wanted to watch the action. The rest of the bar was strangely empty, save for Ric and his papers spread out across a table, sitting with his back to the door. Sonny told his men to stay by the door, and then pulled his large gun from behind his back where it was tucked into his waist band. He silently walked up behind his brother, put the gun to his head and cocked the trigger. Ric heard the sound, and assumed the bar was being robbed. He put his hands up and said, "my wallet is in my jacket pocket…there on the chair. Take it." Sonny chuckled and said, "wrong little brother." Ric had to fight to keep from emptying his bladder in his pants. He knew immediately that Sonny had found out about him and Reese. He also knew he was in major trouble. Sonny kept the gun pointed at Ric's head as he walked around him to sit down. He pulled his chair close to Ric, so he could speak in a low voice. "Remember when I told you that one day someone would put a wire around your neck?" he asked in a deadly voice. Ric swallowed hard and then nodded his head slightly. "I changed my mind. I think I'd rather just put a bullet between your eyes." "Sonny…it's not what you think," Ric attempted to talk his way out of this mess. "No, no, no, no, no…it's exactly what I think! You took advantage of a situation, so you could fuck my woman. Right? Right?!" "No! It just happened!" "That line didn't fly coming from Reese, so it sure the hell isn't going to fly coming from you. Admit what you did Ric." "Sonny, I swear!" With his free hand, Sonny backhanded Ric across the face, hard. "Unh!!" Ric groaned. "Admit what you did Ric, or I'll end you right here!" Ric looked into his brother's eyes and knew he had to tell Sonny what he was looking to hear…which also happened to be the truth. "OK, OK! She said you two were done, and that she was leaving town, so I figured why not? She's a beautiful woman Sonny…" That statement was met by another slap to the face…and a fist to the gut. Ric doubled-over in pain. Sonny put his gun on the table, stood up, and kicked Ric's chair. It fell over, and Ric spilled out onto the floor. "You were a sleazy piece of scum when you came to town Ric," Sonny stated while he stepped over and commenced kicking Ric in the ribs, "and you're a sleazy piece of scum now. If I see you anywhere near Reese, I'm going to cut you apart with a dull knife." Ric tried to crawl away, but Sonny walked around him and stomped on one of Ric's hands, holding him in place. "And one guess which body part I'll cut off first!" he bellowed. "I won't…I won't!" Ric replied, pleading with his eyes for mercy. "Damn right you won't!" Sonny kicked him two more times, and then spat out the bad taste that had been building up in his mouth. He then squatted down next to Ric's ear and whispered, "and of course, this never happened…comprendes?" Ric painfully nodded his head and whispered back, "it never happened Sonny." Satisfied his message had been received, Sonny stood up and strutted out of the bar, his men following close behind. Sonny returned to Greystone to find Reese there, sitting on the sofa, looking over some papers. He was surprised to see she'd stayed. Reese looked up at him and could tell he had just worked someone over…he was still breathing hard and his normally impeccable appearance was mussed. And she knew exactly who that someone was, but she didn't say a word. "I'm surprised to see you here," Sonny commented, going to pour himself a scotch. "I plan to be here a lot," Reese replied, "so get used to it." Sonny down his drink, put down his glass, and turned back to her. "What are you working on there?" he asked, thinking her papers looked similar to the ones Ric had been reading at Jake's. "A plan for my law practice," Reese answered. "And before you flip out…I was thinking of talking to Justus Ward about working with me. What do you think about that?" Sonny was relieved she'd given up the Ric idea, since he wasn't going to allow Ric anywhere near her. "Justus and I have our issues, but he came through during the kidnappings and my trial, so I guess that'd be OK." Reese smiled, "good. Not that I've asked him yet. He might say no." Sonny smiled as well, "he'll say yes if I tell him to." Reese got up and walked over to him, "I'd like to handle it myself Sonny." Sonny nodded, "yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah…I know the drill." Reese put her arms around him and moved in for a kiss. "Wait," Sonny said, pulling back. "I can't do this right now." "Oh," Reese was disappointed. "Do you have work to do?" "No, I just can't…it's too soon after you and…" Now Reese took a step back, "oh, I see. Are you ever going to want me again Sonny?" she asked with tears in her eyes. "I want you now Reese," he replied in a gravely voice. "I want to pick you up, put you on my desk right there, and give you what we've both been wanting for a long time." Reese almost lost the ability to stay standing with that statement, but then he added, "but I think we need to take it slow." Reese took a deep breath and nodded her head. "OK, that's fine." Sonny smiled and walked back to the bar to refill his drink. He knew he'd be downing a lot of scotch to keep himself from ravishing her over and over again. Reese studied him as he stood there and knew in her heart she loved this man. She loved him too much to keep any more secrets from him. "Sonny…" she began. He turned around to face her; "yeah?" "There's something else you need to know." Sonny put his glass down so he wouldn't be tempted to hurl it at the wall, and she continued, "my full name is Charlotte Reese Marshall. My maiden name was Charlotte Reese Roberts…" The End |
