Well Worth the Wait
a Sonny & Brenda story
Chapter 2
The drunk put his hands up as the crowd pulled back around them. A man with a gun warranted some room; Sonny Corinthos with a gun warranted a lot of room. "It's time for you to go home," Sonny told him. The man could only nod his head in agreement; he was too afraid to speak. Sonny moved the gun away and added, "now!" The man scrambled towards the exit, his friends following. Sonny put his gun back on safety, and tucked it away in the shoulder holster inside his suit coat. Then he looked into Brenda's eyes. "Are you alright Ms. Barrett?" Brenda was stunned, both by him knowing who she was and by his raging sexiness. "You you know me?" she managed to ask. Sonny smiled; a wide dimpled smile that made her knees weak. "Yes, although you don't know me yet. Let's get out of here." Sonny extended his hand, and Brenda took it. He led her out of the club, and Jill followed, not wanting to be left behind. Once outside, Sonny properly introduced himself. "I'm Sonny Corinthos. I was at your house earlier today to meet with your father. We're business associates." Brenda felt her hopes sink, "oh, so you figured you'd help him out by rescuing me huh?" Sonny's eyes narrowed, and he replied, "no, I thought I'd help you out. You seemed to be in a bit of trouble in there. What are you doing here anyway?" Brenda tossed back her long dark hair, "looking for some fun. What's it to you?" Sonny frowned, "there's no fun in a place like this for a girl like you just trouble." "How do you know what kind of girl I am?" Brenda snapped. Sonny stared into her eyes, "I know. I know your father treats you like less than nothing and you want to make him pay. I know you just want someone to notice you. Well believe me sweetheart, they notice. But what they want to do with you, ain't gonna make you feel any better." Jill, who was standing nearby unnoticed, could feel the sparks flying between her friend and the dark stranger. Brenda couldn't believe what he said to her. How could someone she'd never met know her so well? Not wanting to give him any advantage, she retorted, "well you just think you know everything don't you? But you don't know me, buddy." "You're right, I don't. But I want to Brenda. Come for a ride with me."
Brenda's heart soared. She wanted nothing more than to go for a ride with him. She didn't care where he wanted to go, or what he wanted to do. She just knew she wanted to be with him. Jill grabbed her arm, "Brenda!" Reluctantly, Brenda told Sonny, "well, I came with my friend so I can't. Not that I wanted to anyway. Come on Jill, let's go." The two girls walked off as Sonny watched. He was far from discouraged; he could tell Brenda was as interested in him as he was in her. His men had found him outside and one offered, "she's hot, huh boss?" Sonny whipped his head around and glared at him; "she's nothing as far as you're concerned. Got it?" The man took a step back. "Yes sir!" Sonny turned back and watched the girls get in Brenda's car. Before she stepped in, Brenda looked back at Sonny and smiled.
Later, Sonny lay awake thinking about Brenda. He knew it was a road he shouldn't go down: She was 17, he was 27; she was the daughter of a business associate and he was supposed to be paying attention to business, not her. But he couldn't stop picturing her face; how her eyes shone with mischievousness one moment, and then were filled with sadness the next. He wanted to take care of her, and he wanted to make love to her. "Cut it out Corinthos!" he chided himself, and got out of bed to pour himself another drink.
Across town, Brenda lay awake too. Her whole being was racing with excitement over the man she'd met that night. On the ride home, Jill had tried to talk some sense into her. "Brenda, he carries a gun. A gun! Doesn't that scare you?" Brenda smiled, and keeping her eyes on the road replied, "nope." "Well, he works with your father don't you think he's too old for you?" "Nope." "Is there anything I can say to make you forget about this guy?" Brenda turned her head and looked at her friend, "nope." Now, lying in her bed, she could think of nothing but Sonny Corinthos, and she wondered when she'd see him again. She was startled by the ringing of her private line.
"Hello?"
"Hello Brenda."
"Who's this?" she asked, knowing exactly who it was.
"It's Sonny, but you knew that," Sonny answered with a chuckle.
Brenda smiled, "yeah, I did. How'd you get this number?"
"I'm very resourceful. Did I wake you?"
"No."
"Couldn't sleep either huh?"
"Did I say that?"
"You didn't have to. You're lying there thinking about me, aren't you
Brenda?"
Brenda felt like she couldn't breathe. Just the sound of his voice was arousing
her to distraction. She composed herself, and responded, "You're just
so sure of yourself, aren't you?"
"Well, I'm sure of one thing
"
"Yeah, what's that?"
"That you and I will be together Brenda. It's just a matter of time."
