Well Worth the Wait

a Sonny & Brenda story

Chapter 9

The couple returned to Port Charles the next afternoon. When they reached the mansion, Brenda said goodbye to Sonny in the car. "I'll walk you in; you need help with all this stuff," he told her, motioning to the loot he'd bought her. "I'll manage," Brenda hastily replied. "What's the problem? You don't want me coming in?" Brenda let out a deep breath. "I'm not sure how my father will react to this." "Why would he react? He's never cared about what you do, has he?" "No, but since you're in business with him…I don't know he might give me grief." Sonny smiled, "it's because he's in business with me that he won't give you grief. I told him to respect you, remember?" Brenda nodded her head, but replied, "I still want to go in alone." "OK fine. But if he says boo to you, you tell me. Promise?" "I promise." She leaned over and kissed Sonny goodbye, before getting out and reaching into the back seat for her packages and overnight bag. Sonny watched her go, and almost ran in after her. He hoped he was right about Harlan, otherwise…

Before dealing with her father, Brenda was accosted by her jealous sister. "So, the little tramp finally returns!" Brenda dropped her bags. "Who are you calling a tramp? You would have slept with him in a second if he wanted you…which he didn't! You're just jealous!" Before Julia could respond, their father entered the foyer from his study. "Julia, I want to speak with Brenda…alone." Julia walked off in a huff, and Harlan studied his youngest daughter. "So, I assume you spent the night with Corinthos." "What do you care?" Brenda snapped. "Well, besides that I have to deal with knowing my daughter is a slut, I don't want you messing up my business relationship with him. I mean, you'll probably piss him off, and then he might want out of our deal." Brenda's eyes filled with tears. "Figures, you don't care about me at all. All you care about is your precious business. I hate you!" She ran for the stairs to escape, and her father yelled after her, "well at least it looks like you were well compensated for putting out for him!" Brenda ran into her room and slammed the door behind her. She was filled with a pain like she'd never known before. "I hate you!" she screamed again.

It took her a moment to realize her phone was ringing, and she picked it up. "Brenda?" Hearing Sonny's voice, she totally broke down. Sobbing into the phone she tried to tell him what happened, but she was barely coherent. "That bastard said something to you, didn't he?" Sonny asked. "Yes!" Brenda managed to reply. "Listen to me…you pack your clothes. I'm coming to get you, and you're moving in with me today!" "R…really?" "Yes. Do me a favor, stay in your room until I come up for you. Your father and I need to have a little 'chat'." "OK." They hung up, and Brenda composed herself a bit. Then, she started pulling her clothes from the closet, and folding them on her bed. Sonny tried to calm down enough that he didn't break something in his apartment. He was filled with rage. He couldn't stand to hear Brenda cry like that. Harlan Barrett was going to pay…he'd make sure of it.
